Cancer Patients

Cancer Respite Sailing Program
Why do we offer Respite sails for cancer patients?

Our cancer mission sails are designed to offer relief from the often grueling experience of having cancer. These sails offer cancer patients (aka ‘Nominees’) the opportunity to spend time with loved ones and let go of the day-to-day demands of having cancer.

They can enjoy the experience of being out on the water for “A Day Without Cancer.” Our sailing excursions are private sails designed to give both cancer patients and their loved ones time together celebrating life.

Who is eligible to take part in these Mission Sails?

Anyone of any age, who is living with any type of cancer is eligible for a free 3-hour sailing excursion with five additional friends or caregivers. Each sailing excursion is run by volunteer Captains and Crew and is designed to honor that nominee (cancer patient) on their own private sail. These sails are for those who are being challenged by cancer and:

  1. Received word that they are about to start treatment for cancer

  2. Currently in treatment for cancer including maintenance drugs

  3. Are living with cancer with or without treatment; in Respite house or Hospice

Are the sails private?

Yes, our sailing excursions are private and Nominees may invite up to five friends/loved ones to join them on their own, private sail. There are no age restrictions for passengers.

A captain and one to two crew members will also be present onboard the vessel.

When will the sails take place?

We offer sails from late May to early October, weather permitting. These sails are scheduled for 3 times a day, seven days a week during the sailing season.
